Hello and happy Monday to you – I hope you had a good weekend! I had a wanting-another-Sunday day yesterday, my first of 2015. Wanted to have another day of laying in, waking up slowly to coffee and then making a huge stack of pancakes to eat with pancetta and maple syrup and ricotta and home made plum jam.

Next weekend then.

Last Friday John and I went out with a couple of friends for a very Melbourne evening. I ended up deciding on wearing the dress on the right in my last post, in my quest to find out if it is a keeper, and: it is! Although wearing it reminded me why it might have not had too any outings; it has a full skirt, and Melbourne almost always has strong winds. I met John on the bridge next to Flinders St station (Melbourne’s main train station for non-Melburnians) and had to lean against the wall to keep the back of it down, and needed both hands to cling to the front and sides in a desperate attempt to keep pant flashage at 0%. I think I just about managed it.

Anyway. This is Melbourne at rush hour on a Friday evening in the middle of summer. Wind (puffed) aside, it was glorious, sunny and warm but not too hot, which I love making the most of as this time of year is usually far too hot to do things like leaving the house any more than is necessary.

I’ve realised I actually don’t know what this bridge is called; it’s just the main bridge at the end of Swanston St. I like these details on it.

And the view is one of Melbourne’s best.

We walked over to the south side, to Melbourne’s Arts District, and had Aperol spritzes where those orange umbrellas are. The view was great, as was being outside and next to the river. It felt like we were making the most of the city.

Two drinks later and we were all hungry, and were up for a 20m trot to Fatto. I’d never been before, and am always keen to try somewhere new. They were very busy – it was Friday night, after all, and of course we hadn’t booked – but we claimed a bar table and another round, and were led to our table while our drinks still half full.

fatto scallops

I love having seafood when I’m out for dinner. The scallops were good, as were John’s chops, of which I procured several mouthfuls for myself. Aperol makes me hungry.

fatto pud

In fact we were all hungry enough for pud. I made a mess with my affogato and Frangelico combo…

But I wasn’t the only one. Splat. This possibly could have had something to do with our dessert wine being so good that it went down rather easily – and I can’t remember the name of it. Damn. Think crisp pears and you’re halfway there. Really really nice. Which is good, as it’s not cheap here, but not crazy expensive, by Melbourne standards, either. And all worth it, as we were very looked after and it was a nice Melbourne Evening Out Thing To Do.

Topped off by being met with this when we left.

And then this. Not too bad at all.

And then the cherry on the cake: a cab within 50 paces – not always easy to find in Melbourne, but this district clearly has that covered. It was a lovely Friday night, the kind I really hope to do more of this year.

This isn’t a sponsored post, wasn’t comped etc and the like – just a recap of an enjoyable Friday night in Melbourne! xx
